Therapy for Adolescents
Helping Teens Navigate Life’s Challenges
Therapy for adolescents in Plano, TX, with virtual sessions available across Texas, helps teens feel supported, heard, and empowered during some of the most formative years of their lives.
Hey there, I’m Ariana Navarro, LPC-Associate
In my experience as a therapist for teens, most teens are made to feel like a problem—and that’s the real problem.
The reality is that a teen testing boundaries is completely developmentally appropriate as they crave more freedom and independence. Parents see disobedience and attitude, but most teens are simply learning who they are, what their values are, and what their place is in this world. The key to improving your teen’s self esteem, behavior, and conflict with you isn’t discipline. Rather, it’s helping your teen identify their values and understand that those values aren’t necessarily what they used to be—or what their family expects them to be.
Teens do the best in therapy when the adults around them provide a safe space for them to be vulnerable and practice the skills they’re learning in therapy. Teens typically spend more time in therapy than adults because earning an adolescent’s trust takes longer. For many teens, therapy is the first space where they can be completely open without fear of being punished.
Myself and the other therapists here at Olive Branch Counseling are here to validate your teen, but we’re here to validate you, too. We know how hopeless it can feel with your teen sometimes. It hurts to watch your teen struggle with their mental health. On top of that, you’ve never felt more disconnected from them. Although it’s painful to see your teen go through all of this, acknowledging that their problems are real and providing them with a safe space are two of the best things you can do for your struggling teen.
We would love to help your teen. To learn more about working with the therapists at Olive Branch, book a free info call with our intake team. They can discuss your teen’s situation and match your teen with a therapist they can trust.
Therapy for Adolescents in Plano, TX and Online Across Texas
Support Beyond the Surface
Teen therapy isn’t just about addressing behavioral issues or solving problems—it’s about giving adolescents the space to be heard. Many teens feel like adults don’t really understand what they’re going through, or they may worry about disappointing their parents, teachers, or friends. Therapy is a place where they don’t have to be perfect. They can be themselves, messy emotions and all.
Our therapists work with teens in a way that helps them open up, feel comfortable, and build trust. It’s about building a relationship where they feel safe enough to explore their emotions, ask hard questions, and figure out who they are outside of the expectations placed on them. Through therapy for adolescents, teens feel seen, validated, and supported.
Builds Emotional Awareness
Adolescence is often when intense emotions hit hard. Therapy helps teens understand and name their emotions, giving them tools to manage their feelings in healthy ways.
Supports Mental Health
Whether it’s anxiety, depression, or simply the stress of everyday life, therapy provides a space for teens to address mental health challenges with the support of someone who truly listens.
Strengthens Communication Skills
Many teens struggle to express what they’re feeling, especially when those feelings are complicated. Therapy helps them learn how to communicate more effectively with family, friends, and peers.
Helps Them Navigate Relationships
From friendships to romantic relationships, teens are often figuring out what healthy connections look like. Therapy gives them the space to understand relationship dynamics and develop healthier interactions.
How Therapy for Adolescents Helps Teens Find Their Voice
Therapy is about more than just managing emotions—it’s about helping teens discover who they are and what they believe in. As they work with their therapist, teens will begin to develop a stronger sense of identity, confidence, and self-compassion. They’ll gain a better understanding of how to navigate the pressures they face without losing sight of who they are.
Whether your teen is dealing with anxiety, social challenges, or navigating family dynamics, therapy for adolescents provides tools for resilience and identity-building.
Building Trust in Therapy for Adolescents
The connection between a teen and their therapist is crucial. It’s not just about solving problems—it’s about creating a space where teens feel understood and supported.
At Olive Branch Counseling, we approach therapy with a deep understanding of adolescent development, so we know how to meet teens where they are. We build trust and rapport, allowing them to explore what’s on their minds without fear of judgment.

Common Questions About Adolescents Therapy:
Will my teen open up in therapy?
Many teens are hesitant to talk at first, but our therapists know how to create a safe and trusting environment where teens feel comfortable sharing.
How can therapy help my teen?
Therapy helps teens understand their emotions, develop healthy coping skills, and improve their communication and relationships.
Is therapy confidential for teens?
Yes, therapy is confidential, though there are limits to confidentiality, especially if there are concerns about safety. We’ll always explain these limits to both teens and parents.
Does my teen have to be in crisis to start therapy?
Not at all. Therapy can be beneficial for any teen who is feeling overwhelmed, struggling with self-esteem, or navigating life changes—even if they aren’t in a crisis.
How involved will I, as a parent, be in therapy?
While therapy is a space for teens to open up, we often include parents in the process through regular updates, feedback sessions, and guidance on how to support their teen at home.
